ASUS ROG Ally Handheld Gaming Console: A Game-Changing Portable Powerhouse

I’ll be the first to admit it – I was skeptical when I heard about the ASUS ROG Ally handheld gaming console. Could it really deliver on its promise of powerful gaming on the go? After spending a few weeks with this device, I’m thrilled to report that it not only meets but exceeds my expectations.
The first thing that struck me about the ROG Ally is its incredible performance. Powered by an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor and AMD Radeon RDNA3 graphics, this tiny powerhouse can handle even the most demanding games at 120Hz with ease. I was blown away by how smooth and responsive the gameplay felt, making it perfect for those long gaming sessions on the go.

The 120hz 1080p panel is a joy to behold, offering crisp visuals that are on par with some of my home console setups. And with Adaptive Sync support, I never had to worry about screen tearing or stuttering – even during the most intense gaming moments.
One of the things that sets the ROG Ally apart from other portable gaming devices is its compatibility with Windows 11 Gaming. This means that you can access all your favorite games and publisher libraries on one device, making it a no-brainer for anyone looking to play their PC games on the go. This is a benifit over a console such as the Steam deck which uses Steam OS which has a slightly limited availability of games to play.
The ergonomic design and lightweight build of the console make it incredibly comfortable to hold, even during extended gaming sessions. And at just 608 grams, it’s barely noticeable in my hand.

My only criticism is that the battery life could be improved – I found myself needing to recharge after about an hour of gameplay on highest settings. This could be a deal breaker for some gamers however as this console might need a recharge over long car rides. However, this is a minor quibble compared to the overall experience of using the ROG Ally.
In terms of value for money, I think the ROG Ally is an absolute steal at £527. Compared to other high-end gaming laptops or desktops, it’s a fraction of the price, and you get access to some of the most powerful hardware on the market.

For anyone looking for a portable gaming solution that can handle everything from AAA titles to indie games, I recommend giving the ROG Ally a try. It’s a game-changer and a worthy competitor to the Steam deck and I’m excited to see where this technology takes us in the future.
